MEAN GIRLS’ GUIDE TO MARKETING

Live Marketing Course for Creative Entrepreneurs

THE PROJECT
This was one of the most fun programs I’ve ever created. I needed to find a way to teach basic marketing concepts to creative professionals. I needed to find a theme that resonated with my clients to make the content less intimidating. I noticed that a lot of my clients posted references to the film Mean Girls on their social media and an idea was born,

Audience: Creative Entrepreneurs
Role: Instructional Design and Development, Graphic Design
Tools: PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop

THE EXPERIENCE
The first thing I did was to figure out what copyright and trademark protections were in place. “Mean Girls” was trademarked in a variety of contexts but as long as I avoided the using the logo or actor images, I could move forward.

I mapped each pillar of the content to a specific scene or catchphrase from the film. I was surprised how well they lined up. I then designed the slides using vector characters that suggested the appearance of the films’ character without using those images outright.
