Overview
Audience: Sales trainers
Role: Curriculum, Instructional and Graphic Design
Tools: Articulate Storyline, Photoshop, Screenpresso
This project involved creating a self-paced eLearning course to introduce the ADDIE instructional design model to new trainers and instructional design students. To ensure the course was effective and andragogically sound, I began with a detailed, text-based storyboard aligned with Gagne’s Nine Events of Instruction.
The course design used a construction theme to simplify the theory and application of ADDIE while engaging learners visually and interactively.
Process
Analysis:
Recognized that training development was often unorganized and time-consuming, with many new trainers struggling to follow a clear process.
The course was designed to introduce the ADDIE model as a practical, easy-to-use framework to save time and ensure consistent, effective results.
Design and Development
- Designed the course with a construction theme to make the ADDIE model approachable and memorable.
- Used Articulate Storyline to build the eLearning module with interactive elements like drag-and-drop exercises and visual timelines.
- Leveraged Screenpresso for annotated visuals and Adobe Photoshop for high-quality graphics.
Implementation
- Delivered the course as a self-paced eLearning module, ensuring accessibility for learners in both corporate and academic settings.
- Collaborated with stakeholders to review the final product, aligning it with audience needs and project goals.
Evaluation
- Reviewed participant feedback to identify opportunities for further refinement, such as adding more examples or interactive activities.
Outcomes and Insights
The course received positive feedback from learners, who found it to be an engaging and accessible introduction to the ADDIE model. The use of a detailed storyboard significantly streamlined the development process and minimized revision cycles. Additionally, the construction theme proved highly effective in reinforcing long-term memory of the ADDIE phase definitions.
The project highlighted that combining a strong instructional framework with a relatable visual metaphor can create impactful learning experiences. Storyboarding proved invaluable for organizing content and aligning with learning objectives, ultimately saving time during development. Interactive and visually engaging eLearning tools further enhanced learner retention and engagement, making the course both practical and memorable.
